Legalities and Documentation
For both civil and church weddings you will need to bring with you the following:
- 10 year British Passport (with at least 3 months validity remaining)
- Full Birth Certificate
- An affidavit obtained from UK solicitor that you are free to marry (If possible stamped in red ink)
- If divorced, the original divorce certificate (decree absolute) or a true copy of the original (Nisi certificates are not acceptable)
- If widowed, the death certificate and a copy of the marriage original certificate
- If adopted, proof of adoption
- If any of the parties changed name, Deed Poll proof of name change
- If under 18, statutory declaration of parental consent
Note: For the Republic of Ireland passport holders, a certificate from the minister for foreign affairs is required.
After their arrival in Cyprus both bride and groom will need to visit resort’s Town Hall personally to apply for licence and submit all relevant documentation. The marriage can then be celebrated after four days.
Registry Office Weddings
Your civil wedding ceremony will take place in the Town Hall of the resort you have chosen for your holiday. Some hotels offer specially decorated rooms where civil weddings can be conducted. There will be additional fees for ceremonies at venues outside the Town Hall. For more details please call our reservation advisors.
Registry Office weddings in town hall normally are conducted between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm, Mondays to Fridays only. Resort representatives can act as witness but must be advised upon arrival if their services are required.
Church Weddings
Couples marrying outside the UK must clear all formalities with their local parish church well before their date of travel. It is unusual for the official performing the wedding ceremony in Cyprus to accept to marry persons from a different faith. Prior clearance must be obtained before the wedding ceremony can be confirmed.
Anglican Church weddings are available at most of the resorts in lovely traditional churches but you may also choose a chapel situated within or just outside the grounds of the following hotels: St George Hotel, Columbia Beach Resort, Grecian Sands Hotel, Adams Beach Hotel, Golden Coast Hotel and Golden Bay Hotel, Palm Beach Hotel and Chapel is available for residents only.
Please note that for Anglican Church weddings bride and groom must show proof of Baptism.
Catholic Church weddings can be celebrated in town’s church in Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and Polis. If you book to stay in Anassa Hotel, Elysium Beach Resort Hotel or Palm Beach Hotel you may choose to get married in the hotels’ private chapel.
St. George’s church is available for both residents and non-residents of St. Georges Gardens Hotel for both Anglican and Catholic weddings. Kefalos Holiday Village Chapel is available to residents and non-residents for Catholic Weddings only.
Please note that for Catholic Church wedding both bride and groom require Baptism certificates. Your local Catholic priest in UK should be asked to forward to Cyprus all required documents.
Catholic Church weddings must be preceded by a Registry Office ceremony.
